About The Beecroft Orchestra

The Beecroft Orchestra is an amateur community orchestra with about 40 members who rehearse weekly at Carlingford High School and perform at Cheltenham Girl’s High School, Cheltenham in their new performance hall quarterly. As a volunteer organisation, we rely solely on our box office and fundraising efforts to fund our four concerts a year.

Tax deductable donations are gratefully accepted and can be targeted for specific outcomes such as the premiere of a new piece or a solo performance opportunity for a young artist. We aim to provide the opportunity for local amateur musicians of all ages and backgrounds to come together to play classical orchestral music and deliver well-priced concerts to the local community. Travelling to Retirement Villages and Nursing homes to perform outside our normal venue enables more members of the community to hear our music.

The Orchestra’s programming is varied and challenging and we strive to include music by past and present Australian composers in our concerts.. We occasionally perform choral works with local choir singers and soloists.
There are no auditions, but we welcome new players of a standard generally of about AMEB grade 5 and above. We believe passionately in the benefits that come from Uniting people through music and also try to give young solo performers, composers and conductors opportunities to showcase their work with the orchestra.

This year, the orchestra initiated our Young Conductors’ Program. The response to this has been astonishing and 4 young conductors were selected to assist and learn from our Conductor, Dr Joanna Drimatis-one in each musical term. They will also be featured in our Visiting Soloists section of our website.

Funds for this program come from tax deductible donations to our Gift Fund. If you can assist us please click the Donations button on the Homepage and we are very grateful for any contribution to assist with developing this program.
