Concert pianist Tonya Lemoh enjoys an international performing career, and is known for her focus on unusual and exotic repertoire, as well as the great works of the Romantic period. She made her name on the international scene with her ground- breaking recording for Chandos label of solo piano works by the Late Romantic composer Joseph Marx. Her playing has been described as “powerful and eloquent” (Gramophone) and her concert appearances and recordings have consistently garnered critical acclaim from audiences and music reviewers alike.
She has won many international prizes and awards, including first prize in Helsingor International Piano Competition and the Royal Academy of Aarhus Concerto Competition. In the International Grieg Piano Competition she was awarded a Diplom d’Honneur and a special mention for her outstanding interpretation of Liszt.
In 2011, Tonya Lemoh won Denmark’s most prestigious national award, the Danish Radio Prize for best solo recording of the year, and the disc was listed in the country’s leading newspaper as one of the top twenty international releases.
She holds performance degrees from conservatoriums in Australia, USA, and Denmark, and her performing career spans several continents. Apart from her appearances as soloist in recital and orchestral concerts, Tonya enjoys making music with others, and performs regularly in chamber music and lieder recitals. A keen interpreter of new music, she has played in international new music festivals in Australia, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.
Tonya has performed and recorded for ABC radio, Danish national radio and Danish television. She was a lecturer on the piano faculty of Copenhagen University for over ten years.
Her most recent solo recording, “Harmonies du Soir”, was named CD of the Month by musicweb-international, and received five stars in Fine Music Magazine.
